Chameleons - StripThis seems to be deleted now and is on the likes of Amazon for silly money so I'd thought I'd share it. The first fruits of the Chameleons reunion back in 2000, an acoustic album of old tracks and two new songs, one of which is the beautiful instrumental Road To San Remo. I know "acoustic album" is a term that sends me fleeing to the eject button normally, but this is a beautiful album, and the version of Nathan's Phase here might even better the original.
Soon after this, they'd release a proper new album (which as comebacks go was pretty bloody good) and embark on a reunion tour which I managed to miss due to being in my late teens and utterly skint. This fact still annoys the bejesus out of me to this day. Next time Mark Burgess comes anywhere near these shores with a guitar I don't care what I've got on, I'm bloody well there.

I have to admit I'm not sure which "these shores" you're talking about ... but this was in TODAY's Boston Globe gossip column thing:
"Around town
Yes, that was Mark Burgess, formerly of Chameleons UK, at Hennessey’s the other night with Worcester’s Curtain Society and guitarist Marty Willson-Piper of the Church. In town on business, Burgess was offered a free hotel room by booking agent Sean Flynn if he’d perform. Willson-Piper heard about the offer and drove up from New York."

Alas, I'm in London. Bit out of the way for me! He has played plenty of gigs in the UK, I just always seem to find out about them after the fact.
Well, it's the same story for me -- I'd LOVE to see him (with the guy from The Church!) at a small rock club, but this was practically not publicized at all ... Someday, I suppose.
I wonder what kind of "business" he was in town for?
Hi! The 'business' might have been something to do with the Black Swan Lane project but it seems he was heading for Maine - not sure what is to be found there particularly. Anyway, it sounds from a few blogs/websites that Burgess has lined up a couple more solo gigs while he's in the neighbourhood.
I love the idea of Church and Chameleons together. I discovered the two very separately but it's amazing how many Chams fans are dedicated followers of Kilbey and co as well. Can you imagine the fabulous stuff they could get up to as a recording side project between the bands?
Meanwhile, Mark Burgess will be appearing with John Lever's Second Skin at Manchester Academy on Saturday Sept 19th, playing Chameleons classics - I'm not missing that one!
